Title: Architecture of Intelligent Linguistic Information Systems: automated reporting of consultations in healthcare
Abstract: The emergence of new technologies for artificial intelligence and natural language processing gives rise to innovations in information systems engineering. In this presentation, we introduce the concept of Intelligent Linguistic Information System (ILIS) that supports complex reasoning via machine learning, and that uses computational linguistics for the understanding and generation of language. The Care2Report program applies this vision to the healthcare domain, in which care providers generally spend much time on documentation at the expense of direct patient care. This instance of an ILIS, the system, summarizes a consultation of a patient with a care provider and automatically generates a report compliant with medical formats. The current proof-of-concept shows that automatic dialogue summarization and reporting using an ILIS is achievable, but requires fundamental research in software architecture, computational linguistics, graph algorithms, machine learning, and medical conversation analysis.
