Title: Improving the comprehension of process models with animation
Abstract: Process models are widely used for various system analysis and design activities, but it is challenging for stakeholders to understand these complex artifacts. In this talk, I focus on the use of animation, a dynamic visualization technique, to help reduce users’ cognitive load when making sense of process models. Banu Aysolmaz and I developed an adaptive animation environment for process models. Our experiments show that process model comprehension indeed improves when users of process models are provided with animation features. Interestingly, the effect is moderated by process modeling expertise.
