Title: e-Coaching for Persuasive Settings: a Case from Insomnia Therapy
Abstract: In this talk I will introduce the topic of persuasive technology, in particular the role of an e-coach in persuasive settings. Persuasive settings will be considered as settings where some identity ‘purposefully’ tries to influence the behavior of another identity, without coercion. Examples from technology are your alarm clock, feedback from traffic speed measurement or, as in our case, an e-coaching system that tries to transform the behavior of a human user into healthier behavior. In this talk, I will introduce the concept of e-coaching, and show the rationale and implementation of an e-coach that supports a user’s transformational journey towards a better sleep. I will conclude that e-coaching mechanisms can be integrated very well with various elements of gamification.
