Title: Model-driven software engineering to support the organisational responsibility improvement cycle
Abstract: This talk will introduce the audience to the research line on Software for Organisational Responsibility. We are in a journey to help responsible enterprises enact a continuous cycle to improve their performance on topics related to the social dimension (e.g. social inclusion), the environmental dimension (e.g. waste management), and business ethics and governance (e.g. workplace democracy). We will explain such cycle, as well as the variability factors that complicate our research (e.g. diversity of socio-economic ideologies, sectorial and regional differences, diversity of governmental regulations). We are bringing clarity and support to the domain by: (i) investigating current practices and performing a comparative analyses of existing methods and software tools, (ii) creating an ontology that sets a formal ground for this domain, (iii) developing model-driven engineering software tools to support the activities in the improvement cycle, (iv) investigating the impact of such technologies in the field. Some of the challenges we face relate to the interdisciplinarity of the research line, or to the tensions of combining academia and activism; however, it is a very rewarding endeavour that allows us to collaborate with practitioners and organisations that are very committed with business ethics and sustainability. Outreach and valorisation are key to us. We hope you will enjoy this sneak peek into the research line and some of the outcomes so far.
