Title: Optimization for sustainability: energy systems and public transportation
Abstract: The current energy transition leads to many changes in the energy as well as the mobility system. By the introduction of renewable resources such as solar panels consumers also become producers. E-vehicles and heat pumps lead to a significant increase in the power demand. Moreover, renewable energy sources (wind, solar) have a highly fluctuating nature and are therefore a source of uncertainty. Consequently, storage systems become important to balance supply and demand. In mobility, there is a growth in railway transportation. In public bus transportation, the use of electric vehicles and the attention for environmental effects are increasing. All these developments result in new challenges in the design of optimization algorithms. In this talk, we will discuss different applications of optimization algorithms in the field of energy systems and public transportation.
