Title: Play it again: modelling recurring structures in music
Abstract: Over the past decades we have witnessed a rapid development of digital music technology supporting new ways of interacting with music, such as music recommender systems, music search engines, or automatic music generation systems. The process of developing these technologies has revealed many open questions about music as a fundamental human trait, enabling Computer Science to enquire about music in an interdisciplinary dialog with Musicology and Cognitive Science. In my talk I will discuss how my research on the computational modeling of recurring musical structures uncovers layers of implicit musical knowledge of listeners, and how the gained insights feed back into developing new technologies for interacting with music. Specifically, I will provide an outlook on newly emerging applications for music technology in the context of health and well-being.
