Title: The Quest Towards a Schema Mapping Benchmark
Abstract: One of the fundamental steps in every data integration task is schema mapping, i.e., the generation of expressions that specify how data in some representation can be transformed into data of another, in a way that preserves the semantics as much as possible. To help data engineers in this task, a number of research and commercial mapping tools have been developed, but their relative merits are not easy to understand due to the lack of benchmarks. The aim of this talk is two-fold. First to provide an introduction and a good understanding to the schema mapping process. Second, to elaborate on the quest for the development of such a benchmark, describe the challenges of the task that make it unique, and present two different benchmarks that we have developed over the past few years, one for schema mapping tools and one for entity matching systems.
