Title: Visualizing Concepts, Conceptualizing Visualizations
Abstract: Data and information visualization play an important role in the Business Informatics (BI) discipline, both on the methodical level where visual models and diagrams are used as genuine methodical means, as well as on the level of the methods and artifacts created by BI, which often use graphical means as an interface between data processed in machines and human cognition to gain useful information from it. The talk will give an overview on the presenter’s work on visualizing domain concepts and quantitative data from areas in BI, such as enterprise modeling, business analytics, and visual sense making. It will also show approaches to conceptualize purposes and characteristics of visualizations to improve automated cognitive support for visual information exploration in the future.
